Brake calipers

The brake caliper, the heart of the brake system, is the set of components that support the brake pads and move them, that is, pistons and cylinders. The brake calipers are divided into two main categories:

  • Floating brake calipers: they have freedom of movement with respect to the brake disc, which is of a fixed type, thanks to a lateral slip system. The cylinder (or the pistons) located to the side of the disc pushes a pad to it. At the time of contact, the disc begins to pull the clamp, making it possible to contact the pad on the opposite side of the disc.
  • Fixed brake calipers: they use one or more cylinder pairs that push the brake pads to the disc on both faces of the same. Fixed brake calipers are more complex and expensive than floating ones.
